Trent wasn’t your typical cuddly critter. He had a quiet dignity about him. A rat with boundaries, preferences, and a vibe that screamed “I love you, but I’m good on my own.” He was Kyle’s roomie, and while he didn’t seek out affection, he never shied away from it either. You could sneak a kiss, and he’d allow it with regal tolerance, but don’t expect him to return the favor. That wasn’t his style.
He reminded me of a cat in a rat’s body independent, composed, and perfectly content to do his own thing. But when he wanted company, he’d come find you. It was always on his terms, and that made every moment with him feel like a quiet honor.
Trent taught me that sweetness doesn’t always come wrapped in clinginess. Sometimes, it’s in the calm presence of a little creature who knows who he is and loves you in his own quiet way.
